Cosplay Competition Rules and Regulations

BACKSTAGE RULES

 

  1. Please be friendly and respectful. Any disrespect or insults towards the other participants or the organizers will not be tolerated, and the participant will be disqualified and banned from future competitions

  2. Backstage is when the preliminary judging will take place to the Cosplayers who have crafted their cosplays

  3. Competitors must be present backstage for the competition 30 minutes before the scheduled time

  4. Competitors are requested to remain at the backstage after entering unless for emergencies.

  5. Masks must be always worn. Distance between others must be always maintained.

  6. Only the competitors and people with backstage access are allowed to enter. Competitors are allowed to only have one ‘plus one’ with them

  7. Do not tamper with anyone’s cosplay or props without permission. If a competitor has purposely damaged another competitor’s cosplay, they will be disqualified automatically

  8. Strictly no tolerance for inappropriate behavior onstage or backstage (harassment, loud behavior, etc.). Whether it be to another cosplayer or generally, such behavior will not be tolerated, and you will be disqualified from the competition

  9. No photographers allowed backstage unless they have permission. No pictures allowed to be taken backstage other than personal selfies. Please ask for consent before taking pics with/of other cosplayers

  10. No food or drinks allowed (Except for water)

 ONSTAGE / SKIT RULES 

 

  1. You must be 13+ to compete

  2. Prizes will be given to top 3 winners (1st 2nd and 3rd places)

  3. Masks must be always worn. Distance between others must be always maintained. Masks will not affect judges scoring

  4. Your skit must be only 1 minute long

  5. Solo competitors only

  6. Skit act and audio must be PG-13

  7. You will be required to send in the audio and background for the skit via email by 11 October 2021. Please also bring a flash drive/USB with the same audio and background with you to the competition in case of any technological mishaps. Cosplayers registering on the competition day need to do so before 5 pm. Please bring your audio and background files with you on a USB/device.

  8. No swearing or cursing or inappropriate behavior will be tolerated on stage in audio, act, or background. Your audio will be previewed before the performance to ensure it follows the rules. 

  9. By competing in the cosplay competition, you are automatically consenting to photos and videos being taken of you by the public and photographers

  10. Please dress appropriately and follow dress codes

  11. Your skit and act must be a minute long

  12. All guest cosplayers will not be able to join the competitions

COMPETITION COSPLAY AND PROPS RULES

  1. Competitors must be following the general cosplayer rules.

  2. Masks must be always worn. Distance between others must be always maintained. Masks will not affect judges scoring

  3. You need to clearly state your character and the series you’re cosplaying from

  4. Cosplays should follow the dress code: nothing revealing the chest, rear, or legs. If the cosplays skirt or shorts is too short, please wear full tights under the cosplay. Please keep it PG-13 and respecting of the UAE public dress code.

  5. All cosplay props must be lightweight, not sharp, and obviously fake (realistic gun props must have an orange tip)

  6. Bow and arrow props: Bows should have no string or a thin stretchy string. Arrows should have no head (the pointy part)

  7. Cosplayers who made their cosplay will have a preliminary judging before the actual competition, for the judges to interview and ask you questions about your cosplay. Reference pictures of your character and work are recommended, but not needed.

  8. By competing in the cosplay competition, you are automatically consenting to photos and videos being taken of you by the public and photographers

REGISTRATION RULES

  1. You must be 13+ to register for the cosplay competition. If you are under 17 you will need to make your parents aware of your registration and ask for consent.

  2. You must provide proof of having COVID-19 vaccination or a negative PCR test during the competition. If none are provided, you will not be allowed to compete.

  3. In the registration form, you need to clearly state: your name, character your cosplaying, and from what series. This information will be called out before you go on stage.

  4. You must state if your cosplay is self-made (crafted) or not. The crafted cosplayers will have a preliminary judging round. Please ensure to provide accurate information as it will affect the scoring if the judges find it otherwise

  5. You can only register your cosplay as crafted if you’ve made 70% of the cosplay

  6. You must state if your cosplay also won other awards previously in other competitions, stating those competitions are unnecessary but welcomed

JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. Prizes will be given to top 3 winners (1st 2nd and 3rd places)

  2. Judging is completely unbiased

  3. The judging score will be 150 points if the cosplay isn’t crafted, and 200 if it is crafted

  4. The points divided are: 50 for skit, 50 for in character acting, 50 for resemblance of the cosplay to the character. The optional 50 will be for crafting, and only applied if the cosplay is in the crafted category

  5. Judges will not deduct marks for wearing the mask but will disqualify you if you don’t.

  6. Judges may ask you questions that you will not expect, especially if you have preliminary judging. Be prepared for everything!  

 GENERAL COSPLAYER RULES CRITERIA

  1. Every cosplayer attending the event, whether competing or not, must be following these rules

  2. Masks must be always worn. Distance between others must be always maintained.

  3. Face masks can only be taken off for pictures, eating/drinking, and outside

  4. All cosplayers regardless of age or gender must be keeping their cosplays PG-13.

  5. Cosplays should follow the dress code: nothing revealing the chest, rear, or legs. If the cosplays skirt or shorts is too short, please wear full tights under the cosplay. Please keep it PG-13 and respecting of the UAE public dress code. You might be requested to leave the event by the event organizers if the rules were not followed

  6. No face covering costumes are allowed. Examples:

●      Mascots

●      Animal masks covering the full face (e.g., Inosuke from Demon Slayer)

●      full face masquerade masks

●      helmets with face shields

●      Ninja costumes

●      Anything covering the face that isn’t a COVID-19 mask

 

This is to ensure safety of attendees and to make sure everyone is wearing a face mask. You will not be allowed to enter the event if you have a costume on that covers your face
